This week students used their own hands and feet to create a turkey! After they made their own, it was their job to teach Kindergarten reading buddies. Students realized that it was a lot harder than they thought to teach and help their buddy. Everyone need to help their buddy, trace, cut, and glue. The turkeys turned out adorable!
Dictionary DayOn Monday students were fortunate to get their very own dictionaries! The Optimist club came and handed out a dictionary and pen to all 3rd graders. The Optimists told who they were, explored the dictionaries with students and looked up a variety of words like optimist, happy, and thankful. My class was very excited to start using them during our reading time! Science
Pajama Day! After working really hard all first quarter, students earned a reward day and chose Pajama Day! We all wore our coziest pajamas. Some students brought a stuffed animal or blanket. Then, at the end of the day, students practiced using AirDrop to send me some pictures with their classmates and stuffed friends! We are wrapping up a science unit about animal groups and their traits. One of our activities this week was describing an animal's external traits and finding out why some use camouflage. Students began thinking about this adaptation by comparing the different traits of two mammals. Students discussed why each animal needed its physical trait and noticed that a lot was based on where that animal lived and whether or not the animal needed protection. Then, each student received two index cards. They were instructed to color on their cards so that when the cards were stuck somewhere in the classroom, the card would "disappear". The only rules were that the cards couldn't go in, under, or behind anything. The students wanted to make sure no one was peeking at their coloring, so they became very secretive! Most students chose to color their cards a solid color. However, some decided to try a variety of colors and even a pattern. Once the cards were finished, they took turns sticking the cards into spots while everyone waited in the hallway. Students came in and had seconds to grab as many cards as they could see. We discussed cards that were NOT found and reasons for this: camouflage. Students really enjoyed this exploration! Check out some amazing camouflaged index cards! |
