We've have a busy few weeks! We celebrated those students meeting their AR goals for 3rd quarter. Students have be working on being good scientists and have been conducting many investigations. They also started Junior Achievement!
Accelerated Reader
3rd quarter's AR goal was a school photo scavenger hunt and root beer floats. The students worked in teams to find and take pictures using their iPads of items on a list. They then got to go over their photos with a treat!
Being Scientists!
Students hypothesized how many drops of water would fit onto a penny before the water spilled over. Many guessed just a couple of drops so were really surprised when so many drops fit! We talked about the word meniscus and why water works that way. Then, students worked with a group to find out what method makes the strongest bridge made out of spaghetti. They hung and filled a cup full of marbles to see how many marbles would hold before the spaghetti bridge would break. We kept finding marbles on the floor many days after! | |
Junior Achievement
3rd graders started Junior Achievement! We are lucky enough to have a student from the DC Everest High School come and teach us for the next 5 weeks! The first lesson was learning the different zones of a city. Each student was given a different type of building. They had to place it on the correct zone on the city map!
